Marc Bolan and Steve Peregrin haven’t chosen an easy route, and the music they’ve conceived certainly isn’t product for the hit-parade. In both letter and spirit, they are rather like another duo who are, at the same time, clearly superior to them: The Incredible String Band. This record is good, and the search for novel sound combinations, which the record accomplishes, are interesting. Sadly, this initially seductive originality quickly turns into a formula, and the lack of variation engenders monotony. Completely identical rhythmic figures hammered out on the bongos, folk guitar, Donovan-style voice … provide a truly original feel, and makes each piece a little gem of purity and clarity. The problem is, there are fourteen of them!” Ph. P. (most likely Philippe Paringaux).
