PH: Talking of “Born to Boogie,”
whose idea was it?
MB: It was
Ringo Starr's idea. At first, it was
planned for TV but he changed his mind
as we went along. It's a kind of
documentary on this period. In fact, I
don't like this kind of stuff. I feel
it's a little … boring. I prefer more
serious roles.
PH: But if
I'm right, you have a film project with
David Niven?
MB: My
contract to do it is still running but
they haven't found the money yet to do
the film. It's a pity 'cos the scenario
was really good. I'm confident that it
will see the light someday in the
future. Besides that, I'm thinking of
making a film with David Bowie but I
can't speak about it yet too much.

PH: Many
people leave England because of the
taxes. Have you had the same problem?
MB: I was the
first to leave, long before them! I have
a house in Monte Carlo and a flat in Los
Angeles. Also I have to host all the
crew that is working for me. That would
be too expensive – continuously renting
suites in hotels.
PH: Don't you
think about a little stability now?
MB: Yes,
indeed, I have to calm down because of
my kid. I will live somewhere in
Kingston but I will keep the flat in Los
Angeles. Bowie's using it at the moment.

PH: What kind of a house will it
be? A palace, I imagine?
MB: Well, a
swimming pool, eight rooms etc. You know
me, I can't live cheap!
PH: Tell me
about your son and how does it feel to
be a Dad?
MB: His name
is Rolan Bolan and his mother is Gloria
Jones. I feel more like a brother to him
than his father.
PH: What do
you think his reaction will be towards
his 'rock 'n roll' family?
MB:
I don't know! All I can say is I would
have loved to grow up the way he will.
