Pop Hebdo #602/10/1976 |
MB:
I could not do much with him any more given that he's
only able to play the congas. At the beginning, Mickey
was an associate but towards the end, we were
following different directions, musically I meant, but
we remain good friends!
PH: I noticed that you have slightly modified your style. Is it difficult to change, I mean, do you need to start again from nothing? |
PH:
What do you prefer: making singles or albums?
MB: It's very exciting making singles but it's more important for us to achieve an album. Our last one, “Futuristic Dragon,” is very different. We spent ten months on it and it was recorded in the United States. It also has “New York City.” I employed, among others, two drummers and four synthesisers. |
After
nearly three silent years, Marc Bolan returns with a
very new T.REX, an album entitled “Futuristic Dragon”
and … a son!
Pop-Hebdo: During the two years, your career seemed very quiet if not totally stalled. What happened during this time? |
Marc
Bolan: I never really stopped working. Of course, I
took time to think about what I've achieved so far and
what I will do next. I needed to, by the way! PH: Why the split with Mickey Finn? |
MB: It's also one of the reasons why I seemed absent these last two years; I wanted everyone to move on. There's now the Bay City Rollers and all this cr*p. Finally, I wanted a break to give me the time to start again without totally changing. |
There is
Gloria Jones, Richard Jones, who were part of the
“Majestics.” Actually, it's the album I should have
released by the time of “Born to Boogie.” |
