R & F: Do you plan enlarging this band?

M.B.: While on tour we often have back-up singers and a keyboardist. For the records, we often use other musicians. So on "The Slider" there are two very famous musicians whose names I cannot reveal for contractual reasons.

R & F: Do you have much contact with other musicians?

M.B.: I like to play with my friends. But the fact is, they are often very well known and it's impossible giving concerts together. It is not deliberate;

R & F: Famous directors proposed roles for you in films. Are you considering a career as an actor?

M.B.: I've not made up my mind yet. I will play roles on two conditions: I do not play Marc Bolan but a different character, and these roles have to be credible. Look at Mick Jagger, I think he was wrong playing Ned Kelly, that did not fit him at all, but he was excellent in "Performance".

R & F: Musically, you have received bad reviews for your move to simplify the lyrics of your songs.

M.B.: Yes, they are simpler, it is true. But tell me, who does not change within four years? Did you not change, yourself? Do you still write like four years ago? My aim, and I believe every writer's aim, was to achieve concision: totally expressing things with the fewest possible words. Moreover, during Tyrannosaurus Rex's days I could write lyrics

as simple as those of today; listen to "Mustang Ford" and you will agree.

R & F: But, your music having changed, haven’t you had to adapt your lyrics to this new and more restricted form?

M.B.: Not really, I could just as easily sing my old lyrics on my current music.

R & F: How does America accept you?

M.B.: Very well. But the situation over there is very different from that in England.

we’ve known each other for a long time. I tried once jamming on stage, but in the end the stage was invaded by the audience.

R & F: What about your film?

M.B.: It will soon be finished; at the moment I'm viewing the uncut footage. It’s not exactly a documentary of T Rex. There will be a large component of fantasy because we do not want, Ringo (Starr, the producer) and I, this film to just a film of a T.Rex concert.

R & F: How did the idea of this film with Ringo come about?

M.B.: He came to see me and told me about the project. I agreed.

The early Tyrannosaurus Rex albums were never released in the USA and we went there only once, years ago. So we never developed a real image over there. T Rex and myself are new things for Americans. Nonetheless, "Electric Warrior" is doing very well there.

R & F: Can you think of a country where you do not have success?

M.B.: .. err, no. But I am really looking forward playing in France and seeing what happens. Do you believe we will be well received?

R & F: What I believe, it is that this question is superfluous.
